I realised a need for change in the Management of HS&E, a change that would enhance the overall wellbeing of all colleagues within the business. Within that change I also recognised the need for a more robust approach to Manual Handling tasks throughout the network, confirmed by the number of manual handling incidents occurring throughout the year. Although comparatively low compared to comparable businesses, however a reduction was needed to enhance our duty of care towards colleagues.

Our journey started with Pristine Condition through an initial telephone call met by a non pressurising individual advising on their methods and principles. I was impressed with this hassle free approach and requested a presentation on their unique proposal. The presentation was delivered by Davey Snowdon, an energetic professional, passionate about improving the current perceptions on safe lifting. Following many discussions and discounts a decision was made to invite Pristine Condition on our journey.

A bespoke DVD was produced on the correct method of lifting our unique products, again much fun but the end product was a professional training DVD. Together, as a team, we embarked on training managers who would pass on the principles of safe lifting to colleagues on the shop floor. RCA training was also completed and we now have a comprehensive training programme on safe lifting in place.

The journey has been fun, which is one of our main objectives, but it has serious undertones which impact the overall mission of the business - a safe working environment for all. This journey will continue and we will see results, I am confident in that.
